Welcome to Rio South Texas

The Rio South Texas region is composed of 7 counties in South Texas. With Laredo, Hidalgo and Cameron County being among the fastest growing in North America, the region faces a variety of economic challenges.  It must develop a workforce equipped with skills and talent to compete in a global economy.  Unemployment rates in the Rio South Texas Region have traditionally run significantly higher than the Texas and national averages.  Through a collaborative effort including state and local governments, educational institutions like the University of Texas Pan American and South Texas College and business leaders like the Greater McAllen Alliance; the region is working to improve the economic climate for job creation, talent development, and overall quality of life. Asset Mapping

According to Webster’s Second International Unabridged Dictionary, an asset is “any item of value”.  Every region has its own unique set of assets – both tangible and intangible – to call upon.  Asset Mapping is an important first step in understanding the resources that a community can leverage to support integrated workforce and economic development initiatives.

The purpose of the Rio South Texas Asset Mapping Roadmap is to assess development resources in the Rio South Texas Region in pursuit of economic and workforce talent. The Asset Mapping Team will be able to identify the skills and characteristics manufacturers need in their employees in order to satisfy industry’s demand.  Through WIRED Initiative the Asset Mapping Team will be able to develop that talent manufacturers are currently seeking and will look for in the future; including current manufacturers’ employees, and workforce.

The Rio South Texas Asset Mapping Roadmap will also provide information that could be used to promote the Rio South Texas Region as a place with enough talent to invest and grow.
